POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) - an explanation

Only name recognized around world for basic analog telephone service. Takes lowest 4 KHz of bandwidth on twisted pair wiring. Any service sharing line with POTS must use frequencies above POTS or convert POTS to digital and interleave with other data signals.
